What can we say? Another Kirby daughter - we retain them all! Boogie is a little booger. She was dam raised - which given Kirby's temperament, we thought would be fine. Well, Boogie took after her dad (who was, no joke, the worst buck temperamentally we've ever owned). Boogie is shy, skittish, and hard as heck to catch. Boogie is also, however, just a beautiful young doe...so it's worth all the work! To her first fresh udder I say, "Not half bad!" Her udder is very similar to Bebot's udder (another Kirby daughter with similar bloodlines paternally). Globular, smooth, well divided and supported with ample teats and 3+ lb production. You can't really hope for more out of a first freshener! And that was with a single buck. The better news is, after 4 days on lock down in a stall (so I could catch her) and probably 4 more days of food bribes in Gen Pop (in order to be caught) I was able to catch her. By day 10, she was waiting until last in line on the milking string and, if I hold the gate open, step back and don't look at her - she'll run through the gate, hop on the stanchion and relax for milking! By golly I think I'll have Boogie the Booger tame by the end of this lactation! |
